| A unified command post was established on the beachfront, and crews quickly located a kayak along with additional objects of interest in the water. The Marine Task Force was activated, bringing additional rescue vessels to the scene. Dunn’s Corners Fire marine unit successfully recovered the kayak and debris, while shore-based personnel interviewed witnesses and identified the owner. We’re glad to report the individual was safely on land, and no injuries were reported. This incident is a good reminder for anyone using kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, or similar watercraft: please consider adding a USCG “If Found” decal (also known as a “Paddle Smart” sticker). These free, waterproof, bright orange stickers help responders quickly identify and contact owners of lost equipment, reducing unnecessary, time-intensive, and costly search and rescue operations. Stay safe and enjoy the water responsibly. |
